Early Elemenary Students

Be sure your child has plently of books that are easy for him or her to read.  They should be able to read and understand the text with very few mistakes.  If a book is too difficult, read it with the child or even to them.  Talking about the book and finding ways to connect it to your child's experiences is an excellent way to help them build comprehension skills.  Get a library card for your child and go on a regular basis.  It's free, and being allowed to choose books is very motivating.  Use books for gifts and rewards.  Let your child see how much you value reading.
